No sooner am I back from my Round the World in 8 days trip then I am now thinking ahead to my next travel epic… Phoenix Arizona in April.

Typically though, I am not just going direct to Phoenix. Instead it is trip, in part, to gain Tier Points (TPs) in the British Airways Executive Club (BAEC). TPs are needed to get to a particular status level in the BAEC and this trip is to get me from level Silver to Gold. I won’t go into the details of the BAEC or the status benefits but you can find them on the BA web site. Plus, of course, it is another opportunity to spend time in the air and travelling.

Needless to say, I am not paying full price for this trip. Instead, I have used ITA Matrix a few months ago to find a cheap route to get me the TPs I need but at a greatly reduced price. The route I found and booked is:

Bucharest (OTP) – LHR – New York (JFK) – Los Angeles (LAX) – Phoenix (PHX) and back by the same route.

I found this route for £1108 all business class flights booked through American Airlines.

Of course, I have to position from LHR to OTP (and back) but I found this for just £65 return using a few Avios to reduce the price… not bad!

There are a few additional expenses: hotel at Bucharest at each end, hotel at LHR beforehand, travel to LHR from my home in Plymouth and as I have chosen to spend a few days in Phoenix to do a little bit of sightseeing so I have a hotel in Phoenix and car hire for 3 days.

I will be posting more about the trip in the coming few days so why not sign up and you will get notified whenever I post a new article.
